My dog's neuter incision looks crusty. Is it normal or infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

Our lab is 10 days post neuter. We are worried about his incision site, whether it is scabbing or infection. He is his normal happy wild self but we just need the peace of mind knowing he’s good or if we need to call the vet. Thank you.

Hello. This incision looks very good. It does not appear to be infected or inflamed in any way. That crusty appearance is normal with healing and scab formation. Continue to monitor the area for one more week and everything should be well healed by then. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
