Could my cat's hot spot on her neck be making her sick and withdrawn?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

Can a bad hot spot make a cat act sick? Definitely not herself today. She tried to chew off her collar and it chewed neck skin I think. She is skiddish and hiding and not eating much.

Hello. Yes, absolutely. Severe and deep skin infections can cause a fever and significant pain. I’m not sure what treatment your cat is receiving , but this should definitely be under the care of a veterinarian. Most severe hotspots will not respond to topical therapy alone and require prescription antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication and some even require surgery. Without photos, it’s impossible to give you the best advise, but seeing your veterinarian ASAP is important.
