My puppy has a lump. Should I be worried or wait to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 25 days old

My puppy has a lump and I’m not sure what it could be. Does this look concerning? Should I take him in ASAP or should I wait to see if it improves?

Hello, my name is Dr. Shines and I am happy to help. That lump on Beau could be many things including a cyst, hernia or ingrown hair. If it doesn't seem painful, it's staying the same size and if Beau is acting completely normal, I don't think it's an emergency. I would get him examined this week. Once the area is palpated, the veterinarian will have a much better idea what it is and then treatment will be discussed. If it seems painful or changing, or Beau seems to be not himself, I recommend to get him in right away. Check it every day and lightly press around on it to check for pain. I hope this helps and please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.
