Trazodone not working for dog separation anxiety. Is Valium safe with diabetes?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 10 years and 10 months old | 18 lbs

My dog is having terrible seperation anxiety when mom not home will not sleep. the trazodone given is not helping, can i give .5-1mg valium safely? He has diabetes/ cushings

Valium is a relatively safe drug but if it has not been prescribed to your dog I cannot inform you to give it legally. What I can say is that for an 18 pound dog, you could give 4 or 5 milligrams and still be within the proper dosing range assuming no other drugs or bodily conditions exist that would make it contraindicated. Neither Cushing’s or Diabetes would preclude your dog from receiving, and the trazodone given together with the Valium would produce some additional sedation / anti anxiety effects but not enough to cause problems.
