What are whiteheads on my Shih Tzu's belly? Should I use DermaVet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 9 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

My Shih Tzu Romeo has two whiteheads on his belly. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by it. What could it be? I have DermaVet far as meds goes.

It looks as though the skin around Romeo's pimple-like lesions is fairly red. Odds are good that the pimple lesions and redness are associated with the start of a skin infection, but I can't be certain without examining him. You can certainly try applying the DeramVet ointment to this area twice a day for a week or two. However, if Romeo licks it off, if the skin lesions do not resolve in the next week or two, or if his skin gets worse at any point, he'll need to be examined by his vet. You could also try using an antiseptic shampoo, such as Dechra's TrizChlor 4HC. I hope that everything goes well!
