My dog ate a tiny piece of felt from a toy. Will it pass safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature American Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 29 lbs

Our dog just swallowed about some felt fabric that he ripped off a toy (we think less than a square inch). Should we be worried? Is something this small likely to pass?

I"m sorry that Taco chewed off a piece of his toy. This is a very small piece of fabric and would be most likely to pass. I would monitor him very closely for any changes in behavior, appetite, or if he begins vomiting or having diarrhea. If these clinical signs occur, he should be evaluated by a veterinarian ASAP.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Asiago. This size fabric should pass without problem, so I would keep an eye on him for now. If you do see vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy, then I would be worried and have him seen by a vet right away. Best of luck.
