My dog has dark bumps & discolored vulva. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 1 month old | 67 lbs

My dog has some bumps on her vulva, some of them look dark, the outside looks fine but the inside of her vagina is discolored, darker than normal with discolored bumps. I don’t have any emergency vet places near me, everything opens on Monday and they only take appointements, I am going to call on Monday and see how early they can take her but I want to know if this is a major emergency. I have included a picture of the inside of her vagina, with the discoloration and bumps below.

Hello. I would not consider this an emergency and scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian should be fine. These bumps may indicate an infection or they may be some small growths or cysts. Your veterinarian will get a better idea with an exam. They may want to do a fine needle aspirate if they are leaning towards a growth or cyst. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope you get all of the information you need when you see your veterinarian.
