My dog has a snout lump after crating. Is it a crate injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Italian Greyhound | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 14 lbs

I put my Italian Greyhound in his cage for the first time and only left for 30 mins. When I got back, he had pulled the blanket I partially covered it with through about 8 of the holes in the cage. As I was holding him after I let him out, I noticed that he has a large lump on the top of his snout. I touched it and it didn't seem to bother him. I don't know if it was from him. pushing his nose through the cage, but it has me very worried.

Yes, it looks like it is most likely trauma related to pushing the blanket thought the holes in the crate. You can certainly ice the bump for about 10 minutes 2-3 times per day and it will likely resolve on it's own. As always, if you are worried, there is no harm in taking him in to your vet for a check-up. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
