Why does my neutered dog arch his back? Neuter side effect or injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | neutered | 8 months and 12 days old | 95 lbs

I have an eight month old male Great Pyrenees. He was neutered at 6 1/2 months old. Since then, he arches his back randomly and quickly during his normal activities. He doesn’t seem to be in pain or overly excited. Could this be a side effect of his neuter, or is it more likely a back injury?

That does not sound like a common side effect of neutering. He may have strained his back or possibly is having some growing pains. If it continues, have your vet take a look at him to see if he/she can localize the pain/issue and determine if treatment is needed.
