Is it safe to give cat Convenia antibiotic with Prednisolone steroid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 17 years and 7 months old

Hello, My cat Bugger has a respiratory infection, sneezing often. I want him to have his Convenia antibiotic. He is taking 5 mg. of Prednisolone daily for inflammatory bowel disease. Can you please tell me if it is safe to give the Convenia shot while he is on the steroid? Would there be any negative interaction? Thank you. Linda

Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Bugger. While it is ultimately up to your veterinarian to decide if it is appropriate to administer the Covenia injection while he is on the Prednisolone, there are no real contraindications if this needs to be done. As long as Bugger is not on an immunosuppresive dose of Prednisolone, the Covenia should work just fine. I hope Bugger is feeling better soon & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center.
