My cat still has fleas after Frontline. When can I reapply it safely?

I frontlined my cat last month on the 17th for fleas. It appears that he still has them. Can I frontline him again now or should I wait till the 17th of this month?

It's fine to put on Porter now. I'd also give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas in 30 minutes. Disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

Poor girl. Yes most topicals can be reapplied safely after waiting a minimum of 2 weeks. However, I would stop the flea baths, which can strip a lot of the product off the skin, leading to a decrease in efficacy. I am not a fan of Frontline due to its poor flea coverage, instead I would suggest another product such as Revolution or Comfortis for better flea management. Also just note that you can give Capstar, a flea pill that rids fleas within 1 hr but is not a long term preventative, at any time, without waiting 2 weeks after a previous flea treatment, if you have another outbreak of fleas. You can give this to him once daily until two weeks is up, and then you can take him into the vet to get treated. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. Frontline has been around a long time now and I suspect there is some flea resistance to the product. I would recommend you use a different product like Program. Yes, you can do it now since it has been 2 weeks. We found fleas on both dogs. I gave them frontline yesterday. Two hours after I gave that my wife gave them a bath. Should I reapply flea killer?
Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

Hello, & thank you for using Boop by Petco. I would wait at least another 2 weeks before using another topical. In the meantime, you can definitely use one of the oral cat flea products. You can purchase Capstar in most bigger pet stores. It only lasts 24 hours, but you can administer it several times a week until you can use another topical ( I recommend either Frontline Gold, or Bravecto for cats ). Or you can purchase Comfortis from your veterinarian. With this, 1 pill will last 30 days. I like Revolution, more because it gets heartworms plus hookworms & roundworms, but it is a topical, too. So use an oral tablet for now. They work great. Take care.

I applied Frontline plus on my cats 2 weeks ago and I thought they were only 6lbs. Today i weighed them and learned they're actually 17lbs. Can i apply a new dose for their correct weight? We still clearly have a flea problem.
Yes it is safe to reapply most topical flea preventatives every 2 weeks if needed. This should be fine and safe to do since you are 2 weeks out. However, if you are still seeing fleas after this correct dosing, it is best to consider switching to a more effective product such as Revolution. It's too soon to repeat a spot on flea treatment. You have to wait at least two weeks between them. You can give Lyra Capstar now. Great question! Yes, you can use Capstar now, and it's safe to use daily until it's time for his next dose of Revolution. Keep in mind that fleas live in the environment, not on the cat, so if you haven't disinfected your home, it will be a continuing source of fleas.
