Why is my dog itching his tail and anus constantly?

Hello. Itching, especially in the back end, is generally due to allergies, especially to flea bites, but there could also be some inflammation in the rectum itself. This can result from inflamed/infected anal glands or even the presence of intestinal parasites. It would be best to have Buster evaluated by your veterinarian so that a proper diagnosis can be made & this will allow for the correct treatment/medication to start.     This behavior can be a sign of intestinal worms or impacted anal sacs. Neither of these causes are serious, but Rocco should see a vet tomorrow. Bring along a sample of his feces with you for the vet to examine. The vet can diagnose if he does have parasites, and can give him a deworming treatment. The vet can also feel his anal sacs, and express them if needed.
