Dog poop stuck to bum: Is it constipation? Should I use Lactulose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 8 years and 11 months old | 12 lbs

My dog Romeo pooped this morning and it got stuck to his bum. It was a small amount. It’s not rock hard. Some was little hard but rest was normal. Should I give him Lactulose? My vet prescribed some for consipation but not sure if he is or not. But he usually doesn’t get poop stuck to his bottom. Thank you

Hello. There is no need to give the Lactulose at this time. If he is not constipated or having difficulty defecating, the Lactulose could give him a very soft stool that might get stuck even more. In most cases, clipping the hair around the rectum & keeping it short is the best remedy for this. Thanks fpr contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
