My bulldog has heart failure, won't eat, and coughs. What to feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bulldog | Female | spayed | 9 years and 11 months old | 54 lbs

My 10 yr old English Bulldog was recently diagnosed with an enlarged heart & pulmonary edema. She is on Vetmedin & Lasix. I can barely get her to eat. She coughs up large amounts of white frothy phlegm shortly after eating & drinking. What can I make home cooked that would be good for her. She won’t eat wet or dry dog food anymore. She is going back to the vet on Monday. She was able to keep scrambled eggs down. Thank you.

I'm sorry Maggie is not feeling well. I am very concerned about her not wanting to eat and coughing up so much phlegm. I am worried she may have persistent heart failure and bringing up phlegm puts her at risk for aspiration pneumonia. I think she should be hospitalized until the coughing can be improved.
