My cat licked a plate with onion on it. Should I be worried?

My cat licked the plate that had potato casserole on it and that casserole contained onions. He didn’t eat the onion. He is a 12-year-old domestic shorthair. What should I do!? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 9 years old | 11 lbs

Hi, if he has eaten just the potatoes there should not be any need to be concerned. The amount of onion that can cause toxicity symptoms needs to be over 5 g/kg of weight, so I think you can be reassured that Percy will be fine. From now onwards keep him away from anything containing onions though as even a small amount eaten on repetitive occasions can cause signs of toxicity. Take care and give Percy a cuddle from me !
