My puppy had diarrhea. Why did he pass red, undigested food?

My puppy had diarrhea for a day then it turned into a soft formed poo. He passed something red that didn’t appear to be blood. It was formed kind of like a red tomato or red bell pepper, the red coloring didn’t transfer to the qtips. I didn’t feed him any tomatoes or peppers but wondering if he got into some, would they come out undigested? It really depends on what he ate. If he ate foreign material that isn’t digestible then it could pass through whole. Monitor him for the next 24 hours and if you notice continued diarrhea, vomiting or lethargy then he should be examine by a vet for treatment.
