Why is my cat hiding under the bed after an accident? Scared or hurt?

Hi. My cat is usually jovial and in the room with me. We were sitting on the couch this morning and I had a small box that I accidentally dropped on the coach next to him (he was sleeping or dosing). I think the corner may have hurt him. Anyway he will not come out from under the bed and it has been 2 hours. I even left for errands for one of the hours and he still won't come out. I tried toys and food. His eyes look okay. Is he scared? I closed the door to the room to make him safe? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs
