Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 19.8 lbs
Hi. My dog has developed a white spot in her right eye. It didn't seem to be bothering her at all but today she is squinting a little should I be worried at all. She is a rescue and 15 years old so I don't really want her undergoing any surgery at her age

Hi and thanks for your request. THis presentation may be compatible with a corneal injury and it seems there is an increase tear production as well. Squinting could be a sign of discomfort. A physical examination would be essential to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat it appropriately. Medical treatment based on antibiotic and corneal damage repair gel is often used, so surgery is not the only option.

If he is squinting, then the eye is causing discomfort. This warrants an exam with your veterinarian to diagnose corneal injury or infection. Your vet will probably use a special stain to check for scratches or ulcers. These usually can't be seen by the naked eye. If Baymax is pawing or rubbing at it, place an e-collar (cone) on him until he sees the doctor.

If there is a corneal injury, you likely will not be able to see it. Place an e-collar (cone) on Gus and have him examined by your veterinarian. A corneal stain may divulge a scratch or small ulcer. Since he is squinting, there is likely some degree of discomfort.
