My fat cat has a shoulder lump. Is it a tumor or just a fat deposit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 8 years and 7 months old | 19 lbs

My cat has a slight lump on the left side of his body around his shoulder area. I guess the scare is always that it could be a tumour, but also considering he’s quite fat, it could be a fat deposit maybe? I dunno, hard to tell.

I'm sorry to hear your kitty has a lump. Unfortunately, tumors cannot be differentiated from fat by just touching them. They need to be sampled and looked at under a microscope. I would highly encourage you to have this lump checked by your veterinarian at your pet's next visit to make sure it isn't something more serious.
