My dog has a hard black lump after a tick bite. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 6 years and 9 months old | 18 lbs

2 months ago my dog got a tick bite, we removed it but she now has a small hard black lump in the same spot. She has the same amount of energy as always and haven’t noticed any thing different besides the lump.

Hi and thanks for your request. This seems a chronic reaction of the skin (chronic inflammation) but is not concerning as it does not seems an active lesion at all. The lump should resolve with time but may take several weeks. If you notice any redness or if it becomes itchy then a check up will be required.

This lump could be related to the tick bite, especially if it's located in the same spot where the tick bit Callie. I would have her seen by a vet for this. It's concerning that there is a lump there weeks after she was bitten by the tick, and it could indicate a tick borne illness. I would have her seen by a vet in the morning, who can do a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis to diagnose if she does have a tick borne illness.
