My indoor cat is suddenly skittish and acting strange. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 12 lbs

My 2 -3 year old cat has been acting funny for 2 days now. Extremely skiddish, almost paranoid. He never acts like this. He is a fully indoor only cat. He’s acting as if he’s in a new home though he’s lived here for over a year? Could he have gotten bit by something? How concerned should I be?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Leo's behavior persists for longer than 2 days then he should see a vet. It is possible that he got bitten by something but I feel that it is probably not likely. If he is not neutered I would suspect this may have something to do with hormones. Any stray cats hanging around outside? Any abnormal behavior should be investigated if it persists. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
