My cat threw up twice, is constipated, and won't take laxative.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 years and 1 month old | 14 lbs

My cat just threw up twice. The first time he threw up his food and the second time he threw up stomach juices. Previously when he threw up it was because he was constipated and I tried to give him the laxative paste I got from the vet but he won't eat it. He was acting normally all day today

If he is still vomiting then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. If he is constipated, he may need an enema and medication to help soften his stool. He might also need an anti-vomiting medication.

I think that after 5 days of giving medication you should have started to see some improvement. Since Kitty is not improving he needs to be rechecked by your veterinarian. They will likely recommend doing some X-rays and possibly an ultrasound of the abdomen. Or, depending on the findings, they may recommend an exploratory surgery. I hope this helps. I would take your kitten into the vet due to his history of constipation. When cats become severely constipated, they can start vomiting and feel very unwell. It's also recommended to take a cat to the vet when they have been throwing up for more than one day. I would be concerned that his vomiting is related to his problems with constipation, and he may need another enema to help pass feces. I'm not sure what medication your vet originally gave him after the enema, but you can discuss with the vet if another medication would be easier for you to give to him. You did the right thing by asking for help to see if he needs to see a vet, and I think you should take him into the vet now.
