Mama cat sore, swollen nipples after kittens. Is it mastitis?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 8 months old | 10 lbs

I have a mama cat and recently gave her kittens away at 9 weeks old. The mama cat is very sore and moving slowly. Looks I’m like her nipples are very swollen. What can I do to help her not hurt and maybe dry up her milk

I’m concerned Ma Socks could have mastitis, which is an infection of the mammary glands. Mastitis is extremely serious and fatal without treatment. Unfortunately this cannot be treated at home and you have to take her into a vet immediately. Please take her into an ER vet now. Best of luck.

    I would be very concerned that Minx is suffering from mastitis, which is an infection of the mammary glands. This is fatal without treatment, so I would take her into an ER vet clinic now. If you don't have one in your area, then there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to find this vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Poor willow. It appears that she may have mastitis an infection of the mammary gland. She needs to see a vet asap as this is very painful and can become a systemic illness. I have a nursing 2 yr old Bengal cat named Bonnie. Her kittens just turned 4 weeks old. She is separate from any other animals and strictly indoor cat. One of her titties has become swollen.
It could be that Bonnie has mastitis, which can happen with nursing cats. Mastitis is an infection of the mammary glands, and it can fatal without treatment. I would take Bonnie and her kittens into the vet today to get this checked out. Best of luck.

Ginger gave birth to 3 kittens, she is done breast feeding but this redness on her nipples has not reduced. I have tried ointments and cant get bandages to stay. Does she need antibiotics or is it possibly more serious? I need to get her fixed asap,
I'd be very concerned that Ginger could have mastitis, which is an infection of the mammary glands that can occur after kittens are weaned. Mastitis can be fatal without treatment, and it does require antibiotics. I would take her into a vet immediately for treatment. Best of luck.

It looks like KuKKu may have mastitis (an infection in the mammary glands). I suggest you have her checked by a vet. She will need treatment that you can't provide at home. Your baby may be suffering from mastitis (inflammation of the mammary gland). This is very painful and you really need to take her to the vet for an exam. and pain medicine and antibiotics if called for. In the meantime you can put warm moist compresses on the teat. This should relieve some of the pain temporarily.

This presentation is likely to be caused by a mastitis, which is an inflammation/infection of the mammary glands quite common in post-lactating feline patients. A check up would be ideally required to confirm this clinical, suspicion and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for Mami at home, she has to see a vet immediately. It sounds like she has mastitis, which is an infection of the mammary glands. Mastitis is life threatening and does require immediate medical attention. To treat it requires antibiotics, which can only be prescribed by your vet. The pus is not contagious, so you don't have to worry about your boys. Please take her into a vet now.

No, this isn't normal and it can be a sign of mastitis. This is an infection of the mammary gland that is fatal without treatment. You need to take Misty into the vet first thing in the morning to get checked out.

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. The symptoms of mastitis are enlarged, swollen, hot and painful mammary gland. The gland may be discharging normal milk but it may be yellow/green puss. Most of the cats with mastitis have fever and are very lethargic. They may vomit and reject the kittens. If Ayesha does have mastitis, she will need a course of antibiotics and painkillers to get better.
