My Border Collie Pit Mix rescue dog won't eat. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 79 lbs

I just rescued a border collie pit mix. At first she was eating twice a day. Now she’s been with me for about four weeks, and she goes out in the morning likes to eat the grass sniffs around, she Urinates normally, and has normal bowel movements but now she has no interest in eating Pete. I would say she’s lethargic but she’s a little on the heavy side and usually just likes to sleep a lot. When I walker she walks normal she’s anxious she sniffs. I’m just concerned because now she’s not eating

Hello, & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Based on your picture, Jessie is a wee bit overweight, so she may be just self-regulating herself. As a rescue, she may have eaten more than normal out of anxiety, but now that she is feeling more secure, she may not need to eat every time food is offered. This is just a guess as I can not examine her to determine her overall health. This might be something to discuss with your veterinarian. But as long as Jessie seems well, active, happy & is not losing weight, this may be normal for her. Any concerns, it is always best to have here examined by your veterinarian. Take care & thanks for adopting Jessie.
