My 9-year-old Yorkie coughs and shakes when awake. What to do?

My Yorkie is 9 yrs 0ld and has started to cough and shake while coughing. He still ears good and while sleeping or resting doesn't cough. What can I do. Will a antihistamine help. Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 lbs
