My puppy's vaccines were early. Does he need more shots or a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 27 days old | 7 lbs

I just got my puppy and he is 12 weeks old. The owner said he has received all of his shots and gave me the dates and type: All shots were the Canine Spectra 5 (which includes Canine distemper, Adenovirus type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus (Modified live virus)) First shot at 4 weeks Second at 6 weeks Third at 9 weeks He said he wont need another vaccine until rabies at 6 months. But after reading about puppy vaccines it seems like he got them too early... Should I take him back to the vet?

I would absolutely bring Gus back 3-4 weeks after the last vaccination. Puppies should be vaccinated every 3-4 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. This is when the maternal antibodies wear off and we know that the vaccinations are protective. Also the rabies vaccination should be given no earlier then 12 weeks and in some states you have to wait until 16 weeks of age. I would establish a relationship with a veterinarian and review Gus' history with them. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
