My dog has a red lump in his ear and shakes his head. What is it?

Hello! I just found a red lump/bump in my dog's ear and he keeps shaking his head. I can't get to a vet until Monday and I'm just wondering what this might be I have also attached a picture so you can see it.

This lump could represent a cyst like structure or a neoplasia (tumor) or a spot of infection. It is essential to have it checked by your local veterinarian as this could be sampled to determine its underlying nature. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump.     It looks like it could be a tick but I really cannot tell with 100% certainty just by looking at the photo. I suggest you take him to your vet for them to check. If it's not a tick then they can tell you what it is - could be a tumor or a cyst as well.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. My dog is 2 years old and has been constantly shaking his head and scratching his ear for the past mont and today I saw a huge bump on the inner part of his ear flap it is very swollen . What is wrong with his ear ?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! What you describe sounds like an ear hematoma. This condition can develop from head shaking which in turn can occur as a result of allergies or an infection so this may be the primary issue. This is usually treated surgically with drainage and a minor surgical procedure to avoid reaccumulation of blood. However, it could be something else like inflammation or an infection. For this reason, I recommend that you have Lucky evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck!

My dog is developing a bump on his ear flap since 45 days. It is soft on palpation,fast growing and painless as well. What will be the treatment.?
This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Found this is dogs ear. Head shaking and sensitive ear
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Based on the pictures, it appears that Nikko has a growth or a mass at the entrance of his ear canal. It could be normal tissue that is overgrown due to inflammation, it could be an fluid filled swelling (seroma or abscess) or it could be mass. Masses can be benign or cancerous. If he is shaking his head and the ear is sensitive he could also have an ear infection. The growth could be contributing to an infection. Most ear infections are due to overgrowth of yeast and/or bacteria. Your Vet can look in his ear and look at a sample of the ear wax under the microscope to diagnose an infection. Due to the growth and the possible ear infection I think it would be best to have Nikko examined by your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish you and Nikko the best!

Dear Vet, Ihave 2Q. See attached Pic. Of red dot maybe a (plump/bump) appeared few months ago inside her ear. Color was bright red then changed to purple. It's getting bigger but its size is still less then 1cm. Any advice on what tests I should do
Hello. Because of this lesions' change in size & color, I would recommend just having it removed. It looks like a melanoma, but would need histopathology to definitively diagnose it. It is small so removal should be pretty easy. This would be a good time to have your veterinarian take a good look deep into Moka's ears. You may not see any infection, but there could be inflammation or even a foreign body like a grass awn down near the ear drum. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Charlie likely has an aural hematoma. This is where essentially blood fills a pocket under the skin. This is likely to grow in size and could become infected and causing pain. Sometimes we have to do surgery to drain this other times we can treat it with an injection. This can cause scarring of his ear. I recommend Charlie get examined by his veterinarian today to prevent complications. He may also have an your infection that needs to be treated to prevent him from continuing to shake his head.

My Dashund has small red bumps under the ear flap
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Red. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He could have an ear infection causing the red bumps. This is typically accompanied by shaking of the head, scratching the ears and discharge coming from the ears. If this is not the case, an allergic reaction could be to blame. His veterinarian will examine him and determine the best course of treatment for him. I hope this information helps!

My Groodle (1yo) has a dark lump in its ear, just under 1cm diameter. It recently had some gunk which we treated with Apex PMP Ear Suspension, and it cleared up. But it did shake its head a lot and still does a few times a day. From what I've read on
It doesn't look like an hematoma. this lump needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take him to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Red ball had appeared in her ear within the last week. I’m worried it’s a tumour and just want to know if I should take her to the vet.
Thanks for sending there photo of Isha. From the photo the bump looks like a cyst but I think new lumps and bumps should always be investigated by a veterinarian. They can examine her and her ear and potentially take a small aspirated sample of the bump to look at it under a microscope or send to a pathologist. This is the way to rule out whether it is a tumor or not.

My Pomeranian has a growth/cyst on his ear that has been getting bigger and is now massive and painful for him when I touch it. It feels like it is ready to burst but I obviously don’t want to do that because of infection.
