My dog has a fast-growing lump she keeps licking. Is it cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 13 years and 11 months old

My dog has warts all over but this one has been around for a year or so but is getting big fast. She will not leave it alone. I have tried different collars, wrapping bandaids and now i have a dog sock with a hard cone on her hopefully she will leave it alone. I think its a cancer.

If conventional treatment has not prevented Lacy from getting at the mass, then have her seen by your veterinarian. She may need to have it surgically removed. Once that is done, it can be submitted for pathology to make sure it isn't anything to worry about. It could be a benign skin mass (sebaceous adenoma) that is common in older dogs. Removing it does not guarantee it will not regrow or keep others from popping up.
