My cat limping with shredded nails after going outside. What happened?

Hi, Our cat called Owen is 1 years old and recently started going outside. He popped out for 10 minutes and we found him hiding in the corner, then noticed he was limping. He appears to have a problem with nails shredded on both back legs. Photo attached. There are more cats in the area so a fight is possible. He had 3 wet food pouches a day and grazes dry biscuits. I can send more photos of required. We'll take him to the vets as soon as they open but sooner advice appreciated, regards, matt. Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 11 lbs

Shredded nails and limping are often signs of trauma. Owen could have been hit by a car, fallen, gotten into a fight with another animal, etc. I would certainly bring him indoors and confine him there. Assess him for external wounds and have him seen by a veterinarian asap.
