Can I rinse my dog daily after walks without harming her skin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 21 days old | 4 lbs

Is rinsing my dog every day not good for her skin? I'm wondering how to take care of my dog after a walk. I have a four-month-old Shih Tzu who is an indoor dog. Because of the dirty sidewalks, I am not comfortable touching my puppy after a walk, before I wash her. Would rinsing her with lukewarm water (with moisturizing conditioner if needed) after a daily walk be bad for her skin? I don't even want to tak her out, but I understand that it makes her miserable. I would appreciate your advice.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Rinsing Pax daily with lukewarm water should not cause any problems. Please, do not use any cosmetics, like conditioners or shampoos, and make sure you dry her with a towel or hair dryer after each bath.
