My cat ate a toothpick, found it in poop. Should I worry about him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 7.2 lbs

Found a piece of toothpick in my cats poop, he wasn’t eating very much the past three days but was acting normal in terms of sleep and activity, he started eating more today and doesn’t seem to be in discomfort. Any advice?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I suspect Pumpkin's appetite was decreased because the toothpick was passing through the intestines and was causing abdominal discomfort. You should continue to monitor Pumpkin at home for the next 24-48hrs. If he starts to vomit, becomes lethargic, anorexic or if he starts to struggle to pass stools, you should take him to your local vets right away as these symptoms would suggest gastrointestinal obstruction.
