My dog ate a baby chicken. Should I be worried about the bones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 22 lbs

My 6 month old corgi just ate a baby chicken. I could not find the body so I assume that he ate it completely (i saw him chewing on it while chasing after him) he seems to be fine and just pooped regularly. I am afraid about the tiny chicken bones in his stomach, is there something I can do to help him?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There is no immediate treatment that should be administered at this stage. Instead, you should monitor Riku at home for the next 24-48hrs for symptoms of vomiting, lack of appetite, lethargy difficulties to defecate. If you see any of them, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment as these symptoms would suggest gastrointestinal obstruction. However, most likely the little bones will be digested rapidly in the stomach and Riku will not show any worrying symptoms at all.
