My cat's itchy eyes/ears not better with vet meds. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 months and 2 days old | 8 lbs

My cat has been itching at her eyes and ears for about a week now. We took her to the vet and she has been wearing an ecollar and getting terramycin in her eyes twice a day, but she doesn’t seem to be improving. Could this be more than just an allergic reaction?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Itchy ears and eyes can be caused by allergic reaction, eye infection, ear canal infection, skin mites and more. If there was no improvement to the antibiotics Peri was prescribed, you should take her back to your vets for re-assessment. She probably will be prescribed a short course of steroids to stop itching.
