Pet's info: Dog | Blue Heeler | Female | spayed | 12 years and 10 months old | 50 lbs
My 13 yr old Blue heeler started limping on her R front leg a few weeks ago. She had some swelling behind her metatarsals so I ordered a velcro wrap to give her extra support for a sprain. Although the wrap and rest has helped and the swelling is gone from that area, she is very tender with a little swelling over the medial carpal and the last couple days she has been licking at it. I still think its a sprain, but would a splint and more rest be the way to go?

Poor Dally. It sounds as though she is really uncomfortable. I am concerned about her continued discomfort. This is possibly more than a sprain and she should have the swelling investigated. I would highly recommend having x-rays performed of her foot to make sure there isn't a fracture, infection, or cancerous lesion. Do not splint her without the guidance of a vet because this can cause massive problems moving forward.
