Guilty about cat euthanasia due to urinary blockage and vet costs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 17 lbs

I had to put my 1.5 yo Siamese down due to a urinary obstruction. The vet wanted to perform PU surgery on him but I couldn’t afford $3,500+ bill. I’m feeling guilty, he was just a baby still. I applied to care credit, scratch pay, and was denied by both. I called a few vets around the area but wasn’t much of a price difference. I didn’t want to transport him around while he was in that pain and wait. Did I make the right choice?

Hi, I understand the guilt feeling but you need to focus on the fact that you have tried the best that you could under those circumstances. Unfortunately it is not a condition that leaves a lot of time to find alternatives. Decisions needs to be taken promptly and by what you are saying you did look into finding financial help. I hope that time will bring you some comfort. Sending sympathy.
