My rabbit has soft poop that mats her fur. What diet changes help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed

Hello! My rabbit has had problems with her poop for some time now. It’s clumped and soft to touch and over time it gathers in a clump under the tail, which is why we got her trimmed there. Knowing this is probably caused because of what the rabbit eats, how can I change her nutrition for the better (right now, she eats hay, corn, sunflower seeds, pellets and seeds sold at the pet shop and from time to time, an apple, carrot or cabbage. Thank you!

Hi and thanks for your request. A part from the variety of things given (which is usually good), commonly the proportion of the different nutrients is not correct. 80-85% should be good quality hay, the rest should be 5-10% pellets and very few fresh vegetables.
