My dog poops less after Trazodone. Is this normal or constipation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 8 years and 5 months old | 12 lbs

My 8 year old Shih Tzu usually poops after breakfast but has not the past two days. However, he did poop after dinner yesterday. Is that considered normal along he poops once a day? He did take Trazadone last night for first time due to fireworks. Can that cause dog to become constipated? Thanks so much. He’s playing and eating well

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Some dogs poop only once a day and it is considered perfectly normal. As long as Romeo is eating well, not vomiting and his energy level is high, there is nothing to worry about. Trazadone can produce gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, increased appetite but it is not known to cause less frequent defecation or constipation in dogs.
