Why is my cat licking a bald spot with crust? Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Female | unspayed | 6 lbs

My cat suddenly has a bald spot, I’m not sure if it hurts there’s some crust but no blood. It’s been really hot (I live in Germany) and i gave her a bath a few days ago and brushed her for a good hour. Maybe that irritated her I can see her licking it. I got her to wear a sweater now so she doesn’t irritate it further. Should I go to a vet or is this normal? And how do i disinfect the spot the best way

Hair loss like that is not normal, no. It's a good idea to bring Meow Meow to your vet just to rule out any potential issues such as fungal or bacterial infections that could be causing it. If it was caused by stress leading to overgrooming, keeping the sweater on can help reduce the irritation and allow the area to heal. As for cleaning, keeping it dry and removing any debris with a clean warm washcloth should be enough unless there is a visible wound or infection present.
