Why does my dog get a rash under his collar that won't go away?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 55 lbs

My dog has had this rash on and off for a few months. I’ve taken him to his vet, put aloe vera, apple cider, different sprays and creams and nothing seems to work. It got better for like a month but once I put on his collar it showed up again.

You may need to think about what his collar is made of and/or how clean it is if the collar is the one common factor. If he isn't broken out anywhere else that would make the chance of it being a food allergy or generalized infection less likely. Also, it may be advisable to clip the infected area so any topical treatments get on the skin itself more effectively. It may be worth another trip to your vet, or to another one for a second opinion.
