My aggressive dog has abnormal blood tests. What's the cause?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Spitz (Klein) | Male | neutered | 6 years and 3 months old | 9 lbs

Hello, my 6 yr old neutered male German Spitz has been showing unprecedented aggressive behavior so I took him for a blood test and his results are not very good. The vet gave him meds and said it was probably genetic but I would like a 2nd opinion on the cause, especially since there are so many anomalies in the test other than CRE and BUN which are the only two the vet is "worried" about. He claims the rest is due to stress.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The BUN and CREA are the most worrying symptoms indeed. It means that Pushka's kidneys are not working very well. A urine test should be the next step of investigation to rule in/out kidney infection and intoxication. Also, ultrasound scan of the kidneys may help to make the final diagnosis. Other blood parameters that are abnormal could be related to the kidney problems or not. High RBC, HCT, HCT could be due to dehydration, but it may be caused, for example by kidney problems. I don't think the abnormalities are due to stress. I hope it will help but if you have any further questions, please let us know.
