Can my allergy-prone dog have lamb treats or safe dental chews?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 52 lbs

My dog is now thriving on lamb and rice kibble after struggling with skin rashes and reoccurring ear infections. My question is: can i give him lamb treats(100% lamb, all natural) from time to time? Will that make his allergies act up again? If those aren't suitable, what treats can i give him to chew on(he is a rescue dog and will not chew on toys no matter how hard i try)? I want to try and give him something as i am worried about his teeth health.

Hello. If Pluto is doing well on a lamb based diet, then the lamb treats should be perfect for him. They do make hypoallergenic dog treats, but you may need to get them from your veterinarian. If Pluto has a relapse or breakthrough skin rash, immediately stop the lamb treats & you will most likely just need to stick with his kibble.
