My dog has a red sore below his anus. Is it an anal gland problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Male | neutered | 165 lbs

Discovered tonight while on a walk that my labradoodle has a red sore below his anus. Does this have to do with his anal glands or just a sore?

The anal glands are located on the sides of the anus. The red area at what would be 6 o'clock could be minor irritation. Keep an eye on it and have your veterinarian take a look if it changes s rapidly or grows in size. An e-collar (cone) can be used to prevent licking if necessary.
