First-time owner: Is my dog's spay incision normal or infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | 16 lbs

First time dog owner. 1 year old female beagle was spayed on Wednesday Morning. She is eating and drinking normally and back to her playful self, but I’m not sure how the incision is supposed to look, so just want to make sure it doesn’t look infected. She doesn’t seem like she’s in pain or anything.

It looks a little inflamed but nothing abnormal. Keep an eye on it, making sure it stays clean and dry, don't let your dog lick it and keep her quiet and don't let her run or jump up and down off furniture for about another week. As long s she is still behaving normally and eating, drinking and eliminating as she should, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
