Dog gagged after leash yank. Could his neck have long-term damage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 6 days old | 54 lbs

A car zoomed in real fast and almost hit my dog. I did a knee jerk reaction where I yanked his leash too hard and he ended up gagging out saliva. I feel so guilty and bad. Will there be any long term damage to his neck?

Hi and thanks for your request. This is very difficult to determine without seeing your dog through a physical examination. To be on the safe I would recommend a check up at your local veterinarian as soon as you can.
