Pet's info: Cat | European Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 months and 20 days old | 9.3 lbs
Cat (6 months) got spayed 8 days ago. Has a medical pet shirt on. Can't reach the surgery spot. The stitches won't get removed (dissolvable). There's a soft bump under the skin, in the stitches area/belly, which moves along with the skin. Doesn't hurt. Area is dry. She behaves as usual. The vet gave her yesterday 125 mg Amoxicilin/day for 10 days. (Amoxicillin 250 mg – ¼ of a pill twice/day). No probiotic. The packaging says ''Amoxitab – Tablets for dogs''. Is this treatment ok?

Hello there, Many medications are only labelled for dogs because it saves the pharmaceutical company money. Amoxicillin and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid have both been commonly and safely used in cats for decades. This is a normal first line treatment and accurate dose for a mild skin inflammation or infection. If the incision area becomes red, swells rapidly, or begins to drain excessive fluid, or she begins to act differently- such as lethargic or uninterested in food, that would warrant a recheck with your veterinarian. At this time, her incision does not appear red and the scabbing appears quite dry and non-inflamed, so I am not overly concerned. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
