Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | 3 months and 8 days old | 16 lbs
I'm nervous I'm over-exercising my 11-week old border collie. I take him on a walk (unleashed) every day between 2-4km (1.3-2.5miles). I know the general rule of 5mins of exercise per month but that seems like so little and when I do that my puppy goes haywire with built-up energy. Does this not apply to border collies due to their high-energy nature? I don't want to cause damage but I live a very active lifestyle (why I got a BC). I also provide lots of mental exercise throughout the day.

Hello. I think with a high energy dog like a BC, the exercise you are providing is fine. You are doing this off-leash, so he is not forced to keep up & can go at his own pace. I would not be concerned about this at all, as if he was in a large yard, he would probably cover this distance multiple times a day. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
