What are distinctive symptoms from coccidia and parvo. My 9 week old puppies have diarrhea and one has bloody diarrhea (loose stool). They started off throwing up and had watery stool. I kept them hydrated and now their poop is thicker but not solid. My vet appointment is Monday. I'm trying to keep them stable until then. Additional info: They had their first shot and 2 dewormings. I took them outside on the ground (big mistake)

Coccidia symptoms include watery, mucousy diarrhea. explosive diarrhea that may eventually become bloody, lethargy and weakness, dehydration, abdominal discomfort and tenderness, vomiting., weight loss, and little or no appetite. The symptoms for parvo are very similar. In the picture your puppies still look pretty bright so this is a very good sign. Use unflavored Pedialyte or low sodium chicken broth to keep them hydrated. If they will eat, feed them small amounts of their regular puppy food, moistened with broth or Pedialyte to encourage them. If they continue to vomit though you may want to hold off on solid food as vomiting will dehydrate them faster and undo the good work you've been doing.

Chancho and Messi are adorable and I'm sorry to hear that they haven't been feeling well. I'm assuming that one puppy tested positive for parvovirus and was treated with medication on an outpatient basis. Parvovirus is not a virus with a definitive cure, but rather requires ongoing supportive care for fluid loss, anti-nausea medication, antibiotics, etc. I'm glad that neither puppy is having severe vomiting. You are doing the right thing by offering Pedialyte frequently to help with their hydration and electrolyte losses. If the puppies are willing and able to eat, you can offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for the next few days, but there are no other home remedies available. Avoid raw egg, as this could worsen any vomiting and diarrhea. As soon as possible, take the other puppy to the vet too because he also likely needs antibiotics and anti-nausea medications at minimum, but his vet will likely recommend hospitalization for IV medications. I hope this helps and that both Chancho and Messi feel better soon!
