My dog has a painless, pimple-like bump on his back. What could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | neutered | 9 years and 7 months old | 4 lbs

My dog (9yr old min pin) has a small pimple-like bump on his back. He doesn’t react if I touch it so it doesn’t seem to be causing him any pain. I have an appointment with our vet scheduled for 3/10, but was hoping to get another opinion for peace of mind until then. I’ve attached a photo and can send more if needed. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Teddy. Pink wart like growths are common in small breed dogs. If this is not the case, then a cyst is another possibility. In the later case, fluid or even a chunky material can sometimes be expressed from the bump. These are the most common scenarios given your picture. Skin cancer is possible in dogs, but less likely. The veterinarian will examine him and may collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This can be done while you wait and give you an diagnosis. I hope this information helps!
