My cat has a burst lump on her skin. What is it and is it dangerous?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 17 years and 1 month old | 7.7 lbs

Hi, I'm not sure what this is on my cat. It's not a tick and it was impossible to remove with the rick removal. It seems to have burst when I tried to remove it. She hasn't been acting strange or anything so I'm not sure if this is dangerous. What is this?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Molly. She appears to have a small skin mass. Ticks are black to dark brown in color so I agree that that would not be the case. If the mass burst due to your manipulation, then it could be a cyst. If this is the case, it would be a benign mass that should not be problematic for her. Occasionally a cyst can become infected, so I recommend watching the area closely. If you have any concerns, then she should see her veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
