My cat has bronchitis. Is 5mg prednisone safe? Any side effects?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

My male cat has been prescribed antibotics and prednsione for broncitis. He is 16 lbs, is 5 mg of predisone a small dose? And giving this pill. 2 doses a day for 7 days then one doses a day for 7 days then one doses once every other day for 7 days a okay thing? Is this going to cause terrible side effects

5 mg is within the dose range for prednisone use in cats. It is typically given on a tapering (decreasing) dose. You may see increased thirst and urination, increased appetite or even panting. These side effects will resolve once the medication is finished.
